Should You Choose A PPO Plan?
Preferred
Provider Plans are affordable options for many people — but they aren’t
for everyone. Some people may find the options the plan offers are too limited.
Who are PPO plans right for? Choose a PPO plan if:
- You have good overall health
The affordability of PPO plans come
with a tradeoff: limitations are placed on how much care is covered,
and on what kinds of care are covered. If you’re like
most people, you won’t need more than a few trips to the doctor
a year — so a PPO will give you plenty of coverage. If you
have a chronic condition, you may want to consider an HMO
plan.
- You live in an area with lots of network providers
To
really see the savings from your PPO plan, you should get care from
a network provider whenever possible. If you live an area that makes
finding a network provider difficult, it may not be worth your while
to enroll in a PPO. If there are only a few providers in your area — and
none of them are in a PPO network — consider a traditional
health plan.
- You want to save money on health insurance
Despite
the limitations of coverage and providers, PPO plans do let you save
money. Premiums and deductibles are generally lower than traditional
plans. Some PPO plans let you choose the deductible you want, giving
you more flexibility in how you pay for your coverage.
Finding The Right PPO
While PPOs have some common features, there is no “one size fits all” plan. PPO
plans come with a wide variety of different benefits — and costs. The best way to find
the right one for you and your budget is to talk to a professional insurance agent.
When you’re ready to start talking with agents, you can use our free
quote service to get matched with agents in your area. They’ll answer your questions,
and show you plans that fit your budget. Then you choose the best one. You get coverage that’s
right for you… and you save.
